Vitamins and Beauty

    We often get asked questions regarding if we recommend our guests take supplements to promote healthy hair and skin. I wanted to take some time to share my thoughts regarding optimal nutrition and beauty. Note that I am not a doctor or a nutritionist, so this is an opinion piece. Since so many people have asked for it though, here goes.

    Biotin and folic acid are the two biggest contributors to cell regeneration, resulting in healthy hair, skin, and nails. So the question is, should you be taking a pill? Not my preference, but maybe. Because there are concerns about absorption, and what other ingredients may be hidden in the supplement, my first choice would be to recommend getting your vitamins and minerals from clean plant based sources. Not a big veggie eater, or one to watch your vitamin intake? If you are having issues with the health of your hair, then I would say try the supplement.

    The recommended daily intake of biotin is only 30 micrograms a day, 35 if you are lactating. Here is a list of some foods rich in the nutrient;

  • Yeast

  • Nuts & Seeds

  • Avocado

  • Sweet potato

  • Cauliflower

Folic acid recommendations range between 400 and 600 micrograms per day. Some foods rich in folic acid include;

  • Leafy green vegetable
  • Citrus fruits
  • Beans
  • Breads
  • Cereals
  • Rice
  • Pastas
